City Administration


The Human Resources Division assists all other city departments by recruiting and retaining a workforce that is well-trained, empowered, motivated, adequately compensated, high in morale and fully attuned to efficient and effective customer service delivery. Additionally, the Human Resources Division supports labor relations and benefits administration, provides administration of worker's compensation benefits, and safety compliance and loss control training for all personnel. The Human Resources Division provides staff support for the Civil Service Commission.

General Employment Information

The City of West Allis has a population of over 60,000 and is the 10th largest city in Wisconsin. We employ over 500 employees in a wide variety of positions (executive, managerial, professional, protective, paraprofessional, clerical, skilled trades, etc.) in a wide range of areas (police, fire, public works, nursing to name a few). We also have part-time, seasonal and grant employment opportunities.

The City of West Allis accepts applications for current job opportunities only. However, a job seeker may complete an interest card which places him/her on a mailing list for 12 months. Employment advertisements are placed in a variety of media, including the internet, colleges/universities, Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel, Spanish Journal, and various other professional/business journals, minority sources and national newspapers as appropriate. Individuals interested in applying for vacant positions must fully complete and submit an employment application to the Human Resources Office by the deadline indicated in the advertisement/job announcement. Resume and work samples are acceptable but are not used in lieu of the application form. An original signature is required on the application form; faxed or photocopied completed forms are not acceptable.

Individuals interested in being placed on a mailing list for 12 months may complete an interest card. Should a vacancy occur in an area of interest, a job announcement will be mailed to alert the applicant of the vacancy.
