| Home Occupancy Permits
The City of West Allis Revised Municipal Code requires a certificate of business occupancy be obtained before engaging in any business activity on any premises in the City. Business Occupancy application forms are available in the Department of Building Inspections and Zoning. See the fee schedule for applicable charges (fees are based on the size of the space being occupied).
Occupancy Permit Inspection Appointments
When a completed application form is submitted with the required fees, the Building Inspection Department will schedule an appointment for inspection. Inspection appointments are generally scheduled about two weeks after the application is submitted. Appointments may be scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between 9:30 -10:30 or 2:30 - 3:30 pm.
During the inspection appointment, a Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Health Department Inspector, and Fire Department Inspector will review the site and area associated with the occupancy application. Inspections are made to insure that the minimum standards of the City and State Codes (as applied to the intended use) are met. If deficiencies or code violations are observed, the applicant will be informed by written notice from the respective inspector(s) to the applicant. The notice is also sent to the owner of the premises. If no deficiencies or violations are found, the respective inspector will approve his/her portion of occupancy.
All five (5) inspectors must approve occupancy before the final Certificate Of Occupancy will be issued.
