OWl Law Enforcement Task Force, Stop, Test and Arrest

NEW! Since April 2009, the West Allis Police Department has participated with 16 other law enforcement agencies in the High Visibility Enforcement -Operating While Impaired Task Force. The Task Force is a team of law enforcement agencies committed to being leaders in the apprehension of impaired drivers in Wisconsin. In 2009 the City of West Allis arrested 529 intoxicated drivers, and arrested 615 in 2010. The West Allis Police Department is dedicated to creating safe roadways for the motoring public. An important component to the success of the task force is to provide public awareness of our enforcement efforts. In 2011, the Department of Transportation has provided West Allis $35,000 to designate patrols dedicated solely to alcohol enforcement. Press releases with the most up to date OWI arrest information are available in the Police Resource library, and an interactive OWI Map is available that shows OWI arrests for 2009, 2010 and 2011, and OWI offenders with 5 or more OWI arrests.

US Cellular has joined forces with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to offer wireless AMBER alerts via text message, free of charge. For more information, see the US Cellular website.

The West Allis Police Department is governed by the Police and Fire Commission , which is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Common Council. The Police Department provides staff support for the Police and Fire Commission.
