Public Works Services Refuse and Recycling Property Awards Building and Sign Electrical Forestry Sanitation Street and Sewer Water Utility Public Works Resources	The Department of Public Works is a multi-functional department charged with the responsibility of providing a variety of services to the public as well as maintaining the City's multi-million dollar infrastructure. Services provided by the Department of Public Works include: Maintenance and repair of the City's buildings and street signs by the Building and Sign Division Maintenance of the City's street lighting and traffic control signals by the Electrical Division Maintenance of the City's street trees and public grounds by the Forestry Division Refuse and recyclables collection and disposal by the Sanitation Section Maintenance of the City's streets, alleys, sidewalks and sewer systems by the Street and Sewer Section Provision of safe and sufficient drinking water and water for fire protection by the Water Division Forms, documents, proposals, links and other additional information is available by clicking the link to Public Works Resources. The Department of Public Works provides staff support for the Public Works Committee and the Public Beautification Committee. The Department of Public Works organizes the Summer Band Concerts, the City's Memorial Day celebration, and annual awards for Commendable Property, Best Porch and Patriotic Display. Refuse and Recycling Route Consolidation In an economy where the City has to be the more efficient with less resources available, the seven (7) current refuse and recycling routes per day have been consolidated into six (6) routes. A small percentage of residents received letters in late September alerting them that their refuse and recycling collection day changed effective October 3. Any questions can be directed to the Sanitation and Street Division at 302-8800 or the Recycling Office at 302-8831. West Allis residents who have recycling picked up by the City can now include #4 and #5 plastics in their blue bag. This is for containers or lids that have a #4 or #5 on them and also any caps and rings. It does not include any type of bags. Public Works
